What will I learn through the GDS Certificate Course Curriculum?

 

The course curriculum is delivered through self-paced modules that include short activities, quizzes, and homework, with opportunities to interact with other learners through virtual community-building sessions. Learners have the opportunity to showcase their new skills through a capstone project, where they propose a green solution to a real-world problem.

 

Module 01: Foundations of Sustainability in Tech 

This first module will give you a better sense of the importance of green tech and an introduction to terminology that will be used throughout the course. 

 

Module 02: Green Digital Design Principles & Practices

In this module, you’ll learn about the basics of green digital design and why it’s so important when we think about creating more sustainable digital services and tools.

 

Module 03: Your Journey to Green & Greening Careers

In this module, you’ll learn about how your new skills make you eligible for green and greening careers.

 

Elective: Green Digital Designer

In this elective, you’ll learn more about the value of eco-conscious digital design, and specific strategies to make products and services more green. 

 

Elective: Green Digital Marketing 

In this elective, you’ll learn more about the value of eco-conscious digital design, and specific strategies to make products and services more green.

 

Green Digital Infrastructure

In this elective, you’ll learn more about how shifts toward sustainable digital infrastructure can make a massive impact.

 

Carbon Accounting & AI

In this elective, you’ll learn more about innovations (especially those that utilize AI) which help businesses achieve their sustainability goals. 

 

Capstone project

Your final requirement is a plan for change: how can you apply what you’ve learned from the course to the real world? The project aims to highlight your new skills by creating an improvement plan for reducing the digital carbon footprint in your own contexts, e.g. a company website, product (smartphone), service (online delivery), or internal process in your company (office design).
